Specimen Requirements	QuantiFERON collection is ONLY available at Sunridge PSC and ACH, and ONLY ordered by the TB Clinic. 1.0 mL blood in each of the 3 tubes (red, grey and purple) in the kit provided by the patient. Ensure tubes are completely filled to the 1 mL fill line by keeping the tube on the needle for 2-3 seconds after the tube appears to have completed filling. Immediately after filling the tubes, mix the tubes by shaking them 10 times to ensure the entire inner surface of the tube has been coated with blood. Over-energetic shaking may cause gel disruption and could lead to aberrant results. The signature of collector and date and time of collection MUST be written on requisition, or sample may be rejected.
Specimen Handling	Specimens must arrive at testing destination within 16 hours of collection. Sunridge PSC: Before 14:00: do not centrifuge, refrigerate or freeze. Transport to DSC. After 14:00: hold specimens until 18:00. Do not centrifuge, refrigerate or freeze. Transport specimens directly to Provincial Lab (attach Prov Lab tag to transport box). ACH Accession: Do not centrifuge, refrigerate or freeze. Transport directly to Provincial Lab. DSC Accession: Do not centrifuge, refrigerate or freeze. Transport to Provincial Lab in next courier run.
