Note: These instructions are for Urate ordered on patients who are being treated with Rasburicase (Fasturtec). If "Rasburicase" or "Fasturtec" is not indicated on requisition, or if lab is not notified by nursing unit that the patient is undergoing treatment with Rasburicase, refer to Urate - Blood

Mnemonic

CLS and CRL staff:
For SCM orders,
  - Log in the URA separately to generate a different accession number.
  - If the Urate for patients on Rasburicase nets with other chemistry tests, cancel and manually enter a new URA order.
For manual orders, generate a separate accession number during data entry to ensure only Urate is on the collection label.

Specimen Requirements

1 x 3 mL or 4.5 mL light green (mint) top PST tube.
0.2 mL plasma

Keep tubes cold (immerse in ice water) before collecting and immediately after collection.

Do not collect in same tube with any other test.

Specimen Handling

Centrifuge at 4ºC + 2ºC. Deliver to Chemistry on ice and inform Chemistry the patient is on Rasburicase.
