Specimen Requirements	By appointment only. Community patients: contact CLS Patient Appointment Line at 403-777-5136 to book an appointment at any Patient Service Centre. Hospital patients: nursing unit to book appointment with on-site lab. Patient MUST be fasting. Fasting and one-hour specimens are collected. Xylose drink: Patients weighing greater than or equal to 10 kg (22 lb) receive the maximum dose of 5 g. Patients weighing less than 10 kg (22 lb) receive 0.5 g/kg body weight to a maximum of 5 g. 1 x 3.5 mL gold top SST tube
Specimen Handling	PSC & RRL: Centrifuge, pour off, and transport serum to DSC. Extra-regional: Centrifuge, pour off, and freeze serum prior to transport to DSC. DSC: Freeze specimens upon receipt in lab; ensure frozen specimens do not thaw.
Additional Information	Xylose drink mix must be ordered from DSC Accession at 403-770-3245 at least 2 days prior to appointment.
