Laboratory Price Quotes for Clinical Trials

Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS) is committed to providing accurate and timely laboratory testing services for the research community. The CLS Research Office recognizes that each Clinical Trial is unique and strives to customize services for each trial.

This information is designed to give you, the investigator or study coordinator, a process to follow to obtain current laboratory prices to determine a budget for your clinical trial.

Request for Pricing Information

Since each clinical trial has specific laboratory testing requirements, you are asked to contact the appropriate CLS Research Coordinator for a current price quote. They will need study-specific information from you to determine which laboratory services are required: [phlebotomy, specimen labeling, processing, shipping/storage, laboratory analyses, data retrieval or database analysis.] Information about your study can be supplied to the CLS Research Coordinator in a number of ways; in person, verbally over the telephone, by email, by letter, fax or preferably by sending the laboratory portion or full study protocol to the CLS Research Office.

Verbal Quotes

If you require pricing information immediately to prepare a budget, the CLS Research Coordinators can supply verbal price quotes for the majority of procedures. Additional time may be required to obtain a price on new or esoteric tests. The verbally quoted prices will be confirmed in a letter to you and are in effect for one year from the date of the quote. Should the study commence after the one-year period, you are required to contact the CLS Research Coordinator for a revised price quote.

Written Quotes

The CLS Research Coordinators will document the laboratory study requirements after protocol review and/ or consultation with you. They will assess the impact of the study on the laboratory and will prepare a letter for you outlining the laboratory prices and special requirements associated with the study. The quoted prices are in effect for one year after the date of the quote and for the agreed upon term following the commencement of the study. The Letter of Understanding, which contains price quote information, indicates that CLS has provided departmental approval for your project.

Conducting Research

CLS supports research conducted in the Calgary region by working as a partner of the Centre for the Advancement of Health, Calgary Health Region and the University of Calgary. Researchers must obtain appropriate institutional approval and have proposals approved by the appropriate scientific and ethics review committee prior to starting each study involving clinical data obtained through CLS. Price quotations will be provided for inclusion with grant proposals prior to institutional review and approval.
