Specimen Requirements

Eye Sources: conjunctival or corneal swab
Collect eye swab BEFORE administration of a topical anaesthetic, if possible. Indicate R or L eye as source on the requisition.
GC culture from eye sources:  performed only upon request or with specific history. See Additional Information below.
Submit specimen in Liquid Amies transport swab (red lid).

Specimen Handling Store specimen at room temperature.
Additional Information

Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) culture performed on request and for neonates (< 3 months), patients with a history of treatment failure, sexual exposure/assault, or environmental exposure.
