Submit a minimum of 2 mL fluid in a sterile container.

Acceptable specimens include:
peritoneal dialysis fluid, peritoneal fluid, pleural fluid, synovial fluid.
Specimen Handling Store specimen at room temperature.
Additional Information

DO NOT submit swabs of fluids.

Specify organism suspected and pertinent history on requisition.

Turnaround time negative culture: up to 4 weeks.
