Specimen Requirements Submit stool specimen in a sterile container.

Refer to CLS Form #MI6000: Stool Collection Procedure for Culture, Clostridium difficile Toxin, Rotavirus, Helicobacter pylori Antigen, Ova and Parasites.

Note the following groups of medication should not be used for the period indicated before collecting the specimen for the  Helicobacter pylori antigen test:
  • Proton pump inhibitors (H+, K+ - ATPase Inhibitor): 14 days
  • Antibiotics: 28 days
  • Bismuth preparations, e.g., Peptol Bismol: 14 days.
Specimen Handling Store specimen at 4° C.
Additional Information Helicobacter pylori antigen testing is available for patients less than 6 years of age and for those who have a failed or indeterminate urea breath test result.
