Specimen Requirements Submit saline lavage in a sterile container or sterile specimen trap.
Submit tissue/biopsy specimens in sterile distilled water in a
sterile container.
Specimen Handling

Transport as a PRIORITY specimen: must be received at the DSC within 2 hours of receipt in the RRL.

If stored, keep at 4°C.
Additional Information

Prioritize multiple test requests by indicating #1, #2, etc. on the requisition.

Submit requests for clinical Legionella investigation from non-Calgary clients to the Provincial Laboratory. Complete a Provincial Laboratory requisition.

Negative culture result turnaround time: 10 days.

For Legionella Culture requests received on a Provincial Laboratory requisition, testing will be performed by Provincial Laboratory.
