Specimen Requirements

Rectal: Submit rectal swab in Amies transport media.


Swab may be moistened with transport media prior to collection.

Stool: Submit a small sample of stool (approximately 1 gram) in a sterile container. DO NOT use preservatives.



Groin: Submit groin swab in Amies transport media.
Swab may be moistened with transport media prior to collection.

Urine: Submit Urine specimen in a sterile container.

Wound, draining: Submit draining wound swab in Amies transport media.

Specimen Handling Store specimen at 4°C.
Additional Information

There MUST be evidence of fecal material on the swab i.e. yellow or brown coloration.

Turnaround time for a negative culture: 3 days.
