Directed Blood Donations

Collection of directed donations is undertaken by Canadian Blood Services, but only from a parent to their minor aged child. Occasionally, exceptions are made in cases of medical need, as when a recipient has an antibody to a high frequency antigen that may not be present on the red cells of blood relatives.  

In other circumstances, directed donation is discouraged as the risk and costs probably outweigh the benefits.
