18-EXT-006  |  Anatomic Pathologist

Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS) and the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) are seeking a full time anatomic pathologist. Applicants with certification in anatomical or general/clinical pathology and fellowship training will be considered.

Applicants with fellowship training in one or more subspecialty disciplines of Surgical Pathology may apply.

Candidates must have strong references and possess a strong track record of collegiality with co-workers. Interest in Quality Assurance would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will join a team of 95+ laboratory physicians and scientists working mostly at an acute care institution with a smaller group of pathologists. Participation in a multi-site anatomic pathology on-call rotation is expected.

CLS is a multi-site, regionalized laboratory providing comprehensive laboratory services to Calgary and surrounding communities. CLS processes 30 million tests, 260,000 surgical specimens, 215,000 gynecologic cytology specimens, and 10,000 non-gynecologic cytology specimens annually. The successful candidate must have recent experience in a setting with a similar case complexity.

CLS is an independent, but publically funded organization that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS), and is affiliated with the University of Calgary (U of C). The successful candidate will receive a Clinical Faculty appointment. The DPLM and CLS offer residency training programs in Anatomic Pathology, General Pathology, Neuropathology and Medical Microbiology, as well as Fellowship training in subspecialty areas within Anatomic Pathology, Hematopathology and Clinical Biochemistry.

In the future, all publicly-funded laboratory services in Alberta are to be delivered by one wholly-owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services. Calgary Laboratory Services will be integrated into the larger subsidiary responsible for overseeing all laboratory services in the province, whether currently publicly or privately delivered. This transition is in the planning stage and is the latest step in creating a sustainable, long-term lab services model for Alberta that meets the rising number and complexity of lab tests, and the future health needs of Albertans.

Job Summary & Responsibilities
The permanent full-time position takes direction from, and reports to the Clinical Section Chief, Anatomic Pathology/Cytopathology, who in turn reports to the Vice President Medical Operations (CLS) and Zone Clinical Department Head (AHS). CLS provides an excellent remuneration package including relocation assistance. Albertans pay no provincial sales tax. Options to function as either a contractor with, or an employee of, CLS exist. Starting remuneration is commensurate with the level of fellowship training and experience. Remuneration range for an Anatomic Pathologist in Alberta is $350,197.00 to $407,373.00
