Alberta Public Laboratories (APL) is seeking a full time Anatomic Pathologist / General Pathologist for Chinook Regional Hospital starting January 1, 2020. Chinook Regional Hospital is a regional institution located in Lethbridge and is the referral centre for 9 smaller rural hospitals. The catchment area has a population of 180,000 and serves the geographic area of south-western Alberta. Chinook Regional Hospital is a 310 bed acute care facility and provides a comprehensive service for most specialties and has an onsite cancer centre. The successful candidate will join a team of 8 laboratory physicians and is required to have excellent skills in surgical pathology. Additional expertise in cytology and/or hematology is also a pre-requisite. APL is a multi-site, province-wide laboratory organization providing comprehensive laboratory services and is an independent, but publically funded organization that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS). Chinook Regional Hospital collaborates closely with APL in Calgary which serves as a specialized tertiary referral centre. The Chinook Regional Hospital laboratory has sections of anatomical pathology including cytology, hematology, biochemistry and microbiology and most testing is performed onsite in Lethbridge. Comprehensive onsite immunohistochemistry is available. 21,000 surgical specimens, 2,600 non-gynecologic cytology specimens and 190 bone marrow biopsy specimens are processed annually. Lethbridge is a mid-sized city with a population of 101,500 and is the third largest city in Alberta. The city has excellent amenities including a highly regarded university and is only one hour away from the Rocky Mountains. The location is convenient for both winter and summer recreational activities, close to Montana and Waterton National Park, and within easy reach of Calgary and an international airport.

Job Summary & Responsibilities
The Anatomic Pathologist /General Pathologist will report directly to the Regional Laboratory Medicine Site Chief in Lethbridge who in turn reports to the Medical Director, South Sector (APL) and the provincial Chief Medical Laboratory Officer. The Anatomic Pathologist / General Pathologist must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs, and teaching when required.

Qualifications
Qualifications include a MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in Anatomic Pathology or General Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Compensation
An excellent remuneration package including relocation assistance is provided. Options to function as either a contractor or an employee exist. Starting remuneration is commensurate with the level of training and experience. Remuneration range for a Laboratory Physician / Pathologist in Alberta is $353,874.00 to $411,650.00.
