Alberta Public Laboratories (APL), North Sector is seeking a qualified General Pathologist to apply for this leadership position in the North Sector.

The GP Section Chief is a key laboratory leadership position that reports to the APL Medical Director, North Sector and has a dyad relationship with the respective operations director(s) and manager(s). This person is the most senior leader of the GP Section for APL North Sector. The Section chief is a leader within the Sector in regards to GP both internally within APL, and externally with relevant stakeholders, i.e. lab users, clinicians, and academics. This position oversees laboratory operations with a focus on the medical and scientific leadership of the General Pathology Section in the North Sector.  The GP Section Chief shall liaison with consultant pathologists, relevant directors and managers, in order to ensure coordinated consultation and service deliverables are met for urban, suburban and rural laboratory needs. In the GP Section Chief role, the successful applicant will be responsible for maintenance and implementation of operational and diagnostic standards and quality assurance in cooperation with the South Sector GP Section Chief, and APL’s private partner, DynaLIFE Medical Labs (where applicable). The GP Section Chief will represent clinical colleagues as the communication partner/lead for General Pathology matters across northern Alberta. A close working relationship with the other Site and Section Chiefs, and Operational Leadership, North Sector is crucial, to ensure the laboratory medical and operational needs of the North Sector laboratories are being met. A detailed description of the roles and responsibilities for the position is available upon request. It is expected that the successful candidate will also contribute to the diagnostic service work at one of the APL North Sector sites.

The time allocation for this leadership position is 0.2 FTE, associated with a leadership stipend, and for a 5-year term, renewable. The successful candidate will have an appointment within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, through the department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.

Qualified candidates with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in laboratory medicine, with training or experience in leadership or management within APL are encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate must be eligible for, or licensed in the province of Alberta.  Salary is according to the Alberta Medical Association grid for physicians in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.
