Calgary Laboratory Services Named One of Canada’s Greenest Employers

Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS), a wholly owned subsidiary of AHS, is one of Canada's Greenest Employers as determined by Canada's Top 100 Employers project.  This special designation recognizes the employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations.  These employers have developed exceptional earth-friendly initiatives and are attracting people to their organizations because of their environmental leadership.

The company adds this accolade to its already impressive list of accomplishments. Earlier this year, Calgary Laboratory Services was named, for the fourth year in a row, as one of Alberta’s Top Employer.

Some of the reasons why Calgary Laboratory Services was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2012):

  • supports employees using their flexible spending benefits towards the purchase of environmental products and services, from home energy audits to rainwater collection barrels
  • an employee-led Green Team meets on a monthly basis and maintains an intranet website through which employees can join a carpool program and participate in environmentally-themed "Lunch and Learn" events
  • the corporate intranet features a unique "Recyclopedia" that provides resources on reuse and recycling options available across Calgary, including donation sites for used bicycles and carpet, as well as battery collection points, to name a few
  • the company sponsors an annual "Green Fair" at their head office location featuring representatives of local companies and government agencies who inform employees and tenants on a variety of environmental products and services
  • in addition to having recently banned the purchase of Styrofoam beverage containers, CLS  is incorporating environmental considerations into procurement policies for additional products and services
