Calgary Laboratory Services Opens Fine Needle Aspiration Clinic

Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS) now offers a Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) clinic at the Specialty Clinic 2 of the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC), Out-Patient Clinics department. The FNA Clinic is located in the PLC close to the west entrance at 3500 - 26 Avenue N.E. Calgary, Alberta.

The FNA Clinic accepts referrals from physicians to perform diagnostic FNA procedures on their patients with palpable/superficial lesions ("lumps & bumps"). Examples of these include cysts and nodules in the head and neck area, salivary gland, breast, lymph nodes, and other superficial lesions.

The FNA Clinic is operated by CLS Cytopathologists every Friday (except statutory holidays) between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm. The ability to perform on-site assessment of the specimen ensures a satisfactory specimen is obtained during the patient visit. A final Cytopathology laboratory report will be issed once the specimen is received and processed in the CLS laboratory.

How to Book Patients into the Fine Needle Aspiration Clinic
Step 1:     Physician's office contact Laboratory Information Centre (LIC) at 403-770-3600 and select option 4.

Step 2:     Provide patient's full first and last name and referring physician's contact information.

Step 3:     Obtain a Fine Needle Aspiration Clinic Patient Referral form (CLS form #CY1105) from LIC or download from the CLS website: http://www.calgarylabservices.com/medical-professionals/forms-supplies/testing-guidelines.aspx 

Step 4:     Complete all required information on the patient referral form and fax to Cytopathology at 403-770-3319.

Step 5:     Physician's office to notify patient of appointment date, time, and location of the FNA Clinic, instructing the patient to arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment.
