Calgary Laboratory Services Privacy Statement

At Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS) we protect your privacy and are committed to safeguarding your personal and health information. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.

CLS maintains the confidentiality and privacy of an individual's personal and health information and will not collect, use, or disclose personal or health information in any manner that is not in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act  or the Health Information Act.

CLS will only disclose personal or health information for approved purposes as authorized by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act  or the Health Information Act.

For example, your health information may become part of the Alberta Electronic Health Record to allow continuity of care. It may also be shared with Alberta Health & Wellness programs such as the Cervical Cancer Screening Program and the Colon Cancer Screening Program, and health care providers in accordance with the Health Information Act  for purposes of providing you with health services.

Your consent is required before CLS can give your health information to non-health care providers or agencies, except when required by law or in emergency situations.

The CLS website may collect personal or health information you voluntarily provide when, for example, you use online scheduling to make an appointment for blood collection service or submit feedback or concerns to CLS using the Customer Feedback page. Personal or health information provided in these instances will only be used by authorized CLS staff for the stated purpose. Information is collected pursuant to section 33 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and section 18-24 of the Health Information Act, as applicable.
