1 x 4 mL or 1 x 3 mL lavender top EDTA tube

Whole blood

Usually accompanies a request for a CBC, however unstained air dried blood films may be submitted accompanied by Hematological data (complete CBC) and patient history.

If an extra blood smear/slide is requested for a specific hematologist, order ESHEM, refer to Peripheral Blood Smear, Extra Slide Requests

Additional Information Important: If CBC results meet auto-verification criteria, slide evaluation/review will not be performed by pathologist as per established laboratory procedures.
