Specimen Requirements

Require 5-10 mL random urine.

Minimum: 2.0 mL urine.

This test must be booked with the ACH Biochemical Genetics Lab (403-955-7379) at least 24 hours in advance.  Sample can only be collected at ACH with immediate notification of the ACH Biochemical Genetics Lab for sample pick-up.

Testing will be cancelled if the sample has not been received within 1 hour of collection.

Specimen Handling Specimen should be placed on ice and immediately transported to the ACH Biochemical Genetics Lab.
Additional Information This dipstick screening test is for the investigation of patients suspected of having sulfite oxidase or molybdenum co-factor deficiencies based on clinical presentation.  Although a positive test is highly suggestive of either disorder, it is dependent on testing fresh urine.  A negative test cannot be used to rule out these disorders, and further testing is recommended if warranted by specific clinical suspicion.
