Serum separator (gel) vacutainers must be avoided as the drugs may adhere to the gel.

Separate specimen and send serum.

DO NOT freeze. Transport serum on ice to DSC Referrals. Ensure tube is not in direct contact with ice pack so specimen does not freeze.

Detects tricyclic antidepressants and metabolites but will not distinguish between them.

May give false positive results:
Carbamazepine, Chlorpromazine, Cyclobenzaprine, Dimenhydrinate, Diphenhydramine, Orphenadrine and Quetiapine
