Specimen Requirements

Acceptable specimens, vaginal swabs of:

  • patients <13 years, or
  • patients with diagnosis.

Submit swab in Amies charcoal transport media.
Specimen Handling  Store specimen at room temperature.
Additional Information

Diagnosis includes:

  • Toxic shock syndrome (TTS) including R/O Group A Streptococcus (GAS) and/or Staphylococcus aureus,
  • sexual assault,
  • CSART or CAS ACH Gyne Clinics,
  • vaginal vault (hysterectomy), or
  • vaginal wash (<13 years).
